More About Open Dental
Open Dental is a dental software program that is dedicated to being a user friendly, highly functional tool for dental offices everywhere. It has many features that will be beneficial to users of all technical skillsets. Open Dental allows front office administrators to hide some of more technologically advanced features from users who don’t have the computer skills necessary to perform certain tasks on the program.
If all of the features were made visible to these users, it would be overwhelming for them to want to learn this innovative dental software. Once the user is ready to use these parts of the software, there is a simple checkbox that allows them to start using those particular features. Open Dental is user-friendly, but includes many useful features for many dental tasks, so learning the features in a step-by-step manner may be beneficial.
Open Dental software programs come equipped with tools to handle all dental office’s needs. With a few clicks, prescriptions can be given, graphics can emerge, and appointments can be made. Mail merging is also available on Open Dental programs.
Data from the software can be exported and is able to be read simply. The data isn’t in raw form like most other dental software technology. This is an additional feature that makes Open Dental an exceptionally user-friendly tool.
Planning appointments is seamless with very few steps involved. There is a dashboard that shows scheduled appointments, unscheduled appointments and the planned appointment, which is most current. A user is able to make an appointment by clicking the “make appointment” button. A user is also able to schedule a recall very quickly and easily. Let’s say a patient calls and schedules their next appointment after six months. Ordinarily the dentist or dental assistant likes to make these schedules ahead of time, but with people’s schedules being so hectic nowadays, it is easy to see why someone would rather call later. Regardless, the process of scheduling this recall is simple. There is a section/button that brings up patient recalls. From this section, a user can send out reminders such as emails, postcards, etc.
The simple notes display is very helpful as well. It tracks patients’ allergies, medications, personal notes, diseases, regimens, and other important, relevant information. Notes and the Quick Paste options can be edited with a double click. Quick Paste Notes are simply indicators/descriptors on the program that make it easy to keep track of patient information.
The color-coded Definitions list is a cool feature that makes appointments, schedules dental work, notes, etc. visually and statistically appropriate. For instance, if an appointment has been cancelled, it could be represented by the color red (or whatever color is desired). Information cannot be deleted on this section due to it being connected to so many other pieces of data; therefore, it can be dragged down and hidden to bypass this conundrum.
Open Dental has been used for years and has been a highly useful tool in the dental world. Its simplicity and accuracy make it a premier choice for medical practitioners who don’t need a technology making their job even harder. Open Dental becomes a seamless program that integrates itself as a part of the office environment.
